The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine says that most people need between 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) and 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluid intake per day. However, a lot of that fluid — roughly 20 percent in most cases — comes from the food that you eat.
