What Happened to Edith Gonzalez? Plus, Who Are Her Daughter and Husband

One of Mexico’s most beloved telenovela stars, Edith Gonzalez, 54, has died after a three-year-long battle with ovarian cancer. Her funeral will be at the Jorge Negrete Theater.

The actress had starred in renowned Spanish-language soaps such as Corazón Salvaje, Salomé, Mujer de Madera, Doña Barbara, Palabra de Mujer, Las Bravo, and Eva la Trailera.

Edith announced her diagnosis in August 2016.

Edith took to Instagram to announce her cancer diagnosis on August 18, 2016. “Hello to all my fan-mily,” she wrote in Spanish as a caption to a photo of her lying on a hospital bed.

“As always, I prefer to give you information to avoid speculations. In the past few days, I went to the doctor for abdominal pains, and they effectively found cancerous tissues that were removed in their totality,” she continued.

“As part of the process, I’ll have to receive treatment for a few months. I’m strong, full of life and working! I only hope that you accompany me with your love and respect. I’m thankful for the interest in my health, I’ll keep you informed on social media and I won’t give any more declarations on the matter. All my love!!!” she posted.

Edith is survived by her husband, Lorenzo Lazo, and 14-year-old daughter, Constanza.

The actress was reportedly receiving treatment at Angeles Interlomas Hospital in Mexico City when she died. She’s leaving behind Lorenzo Lazo Margáin, 64, her devoted economist husband who stood by her side during her health struggles.

“She is my guardian angel, she is my great blessing of my life,” he said to ¡Hola! in 2017. He’s now posted a black bow on his Instagram page to commemorate his wife’s passing, as the news spread and support began pouring in. For her part, Edith frequently posted loving photos of her husband.

As for Edith’s daughter, 14-year-old Constanza Creel Gonzalez, she was born to a different father — Santiago Creel — with whom Edith kept an amicable relationship. “I had recently gotten out of a very difficult relationship, and he was searching for new horizons in his personal life,” she told The Latin Times.
