What Does Amanda Bynes Do Now? She Just Left Her Sober Living Facility

In the years since she played devout and uptight Christian Marianne Bryant, Amanda has had several run-ins with the law and numerous mental health evaluations. After revealing in a 2018 Paper magazine profile that she was four years sober, the actress had a mental breakdown, which eventually led to her going to rehab in March of 2019.

Upon completing rehab, Amanda went to a sober living facility, but she left on Dec. 12 amid reports that she was fed up with the rules there.

What does Amanda Bynes do now?

In her Nov. of 2018 Paper spread, Amanda discussed how crucial her parents Lynn and Rick Bynes were in helping her maintain a four year sobriety. She had previously been arrested for a DUI in 2012, and she was charged with reckless endangerment and marijuana possession in 2013 after she dropped a bong from the 36th floor of her Manhattan apartment (the charges were later dropped).

Her parents pleaded to be conservators over Amanda (which meant they would have control over her money and major decisions) after she set a fire in a stranger’s driveway in the California neighborhood of Thousand Oaks. Her mother was given the conservator position, and Amanda sought treatment for her bipolar disorder.

After an apparent mental breakdown, Amanda entered into a rehab program in March of 2019. She then completed the rehab and moved to a sober living facility, where she remained until Dec. 12. She allegedly left the facility because she didn’t like the frequent drug tests, strict curfew, mental health evaluations, and rigid rules.

Amanda’s exit from the facility directly went against the decision of her parents AKA her conservators. According to The Blast, Amanda is planning on appealing to the court to regain control over her own decision making. She does allegedly have control of her finances, though, which apparently has her parents concerned that someone will take advantage of her.

Before her relapse, Amanda had planned on going back to fashion school to complete a Bachelor’s degree (she did graduate with an Associate’s degree in June, but more on that later).

The actress is also sporting hot pink hair now. It’s unknown where she is currently living. She and her parents have been spotted outside of a courthouse since she exited the sober living facility.

Before leaving sober living, Amanda got a fashion degree.

The California native graduated from L.A.’s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in June, and she expressed to Paper that she was also interested in returning to acting.

A source told People that “she was able to get an outing pass for a few hours for the [graduation] so she could walk with the other students.

Ahead of her graduation, her family’s attorney, Tamar Arminak, told People that she was “doing great” and she was focused on her well-being.

“She’s spending time reading and exercising, sketching for her new line, and mostly making sure this time around she puts her needs first,” he said in April.

Amanda addressed her very public decline in her Paper interview, revealing that her drug use began at the age of 16 with marijuana. It then progressed during her adult years to molly and ecstasy. She also admitted to abusing Adderall.

The comedienne was supposed to star in the 2011 film Hall Pass, but pulled out due to insecurities she felt about her appearance — which she speculated might have manifested as the result of a drug-induced psychosis.

“When I was doing Hall Pass, I remember being in the trailer and I used to chew the Adderall tablets because I thought they made me [more] high [that way],” she said. “I remember chewing on a bunch of them and literally being scatterbrained and not being able to focus on my lines or memorize them for that matter.”

She also said at the time that she was no longer interested in doing drugs. Unfortunately, things have clearly changed since.

“I’m not sad about [getting clean] and I don’t miss it because I really feel ashamed of how those substances made me act,” she confessed. “When I was off of them, I was completely back to normal and immediately realized what I had done.”

How much is Amanda Bynes worth?

With reports that Amanda is once again in control of her finances, the status of her net worth is of particular interest.

The What I Like About You alum is still worth an estimated $4 million despite her lack of income. It’s believed that her mom, who was granted conservatorship at least twice over Amanda’s estate, had a hand in saving some of her money.

At the height of her fame, she was making approximately $2 million to $3 million a year, but in 2013, her parents claimed that she had blown through $1.2 million in less than 12 months and was basically homeless.

Amanda credited her family for “really helping me get back on track” after such a dark period. “My advice to anyone who is struggling with substance abuse would be to be really careful because drugs can really take a hold of your life,” she conveyed.

Any further update on her conservatorship case is unknown now.
