UK authority mulls Evolution Gaming’s NetEnt buy

The U.K. Competition and Markets Authority said Tuesday it has launched a merger investigation into the planned acquisition of NetEnt AB by Evolution Gaming Group AB.

Evolution Gaming AB, a Swedish company that provides technology behind online casinos, launched a takeover offer for NetEnt AB in June in a deal valuing the games developer at 19.6 billion Swedish kronor ($2.2 billion).

The purpose of the CMA’s investigation is to consider whether the deal could result in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services.

The regulator said comments on the deal from any interested party can be filed by Oct. 5, 2020 with the first phase inquiry deadline set for Nov. 19, 2020.
