These pants party in the back.
The cheeky denim collaboration between Levi’s and streetwear brand Vetements has rolled out jeans that unzip right along your butt crack.
Instagram snaps of these bum-baring pairs broke the internet faster than you can say “Kim Kardashian,” snapping up 52,000 likes and counting.
But these will also put a hole in your pocket, starting at $1,715 for the blue jeans, which also zip up high along both thighs. The corduroy pair goes for a bank-breaking $1,985. (Coincidentally, 1985 was the year David Lee Roth left Van Halen after flashing his rear in bottomless chaps on tour.)
“This is a reinvention, because people have worn these through the ages,” celebrity stylist Robert Verdi told Moneyish, recalling the chaps and jeans ripped right below the butt cheeks in the punk rock 80s and grunge 90s. And of course, the micro-mini Daisy Dukes shorts of the 70s.
“Every generation tries to be more shocking,” he added. “Clothing is all about seduction. And in this case, there’s something really provocative about being in control of that back zipper. There are some girls who will go out late at night with some sexy lace or satin boy shorts underneath, and unzip them while they’re dancing.” It’s already the trend to flash your lacy bralette, after all.
The risque jeans have already sold out at Nordstrom. But pairs in cropped black corduroy and distressed charcoal denim are still available at Net-A-Porter.
Neither Levi’s nor Vetements returned request for comment.
This isn’t the only design to get avant garde with the otherwise basic wardrobe staple lately. The designers at Topshop dreamed up the Moto Clear Patent Mom Jeans, which feature huge, clear plastic panels from the mid-thigh to down below the knee for $95.
“In the wake of reality TV, everyone wants to be totally exposed,” Verdi said. “Buildings no longer have windows – they’re full glass fronts that are a fishbowl to look into someone’s life and see them walk around their apartment. People do it with Instagram and Snapchat. And now with these jeans, you are literally showing people everything you have.”
