You’d think scenes of your favorite superheroes duking it out amongst each other would be enough, but it’s the surprise re-introduction of a familiar costumed face that has fans in a tizzy today.
The new-look Spider-Man appears in the final scene of a new trailer for Disney’s upcoming summer blockbuster “Captain America: Civil War,” which was released Thursday. This time, Spidey is played by 19-year-old Tom Holland, who is taking over the role previously played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
We also get the introduction of Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), a new hero to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Civil War” will pit superhero vs. superhero in a battle royale (a split occurs after government regulation of superheroes in the fallout of all the collateral civilian damage done in the previous Marvel films). On one side is Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Spider-Man and Black Panther, among others, who will face off against former allies Captain America (Chris Evans), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and others.
Heroes fighting each other will be all the rage this year; “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” the upcoming DC Comics film from Time Warner’s
Warner Bros. studio, features a similar theme.
Walt Disney Co.’s
recent crop of Marvel films combined have grossed around $5 billion in ticket sales, according to Box Office Mojo. “Captain America: Civil War” hits theaters May 7.
