Lin-Manuel Miranda’s new ‘Hamildrop’ release with Ben Platt raises money for march against gun violence

Lin-Manuel Miranda just took his “Hamildrop” project to a new financial level.

For the fourth installment of “Hamildrop” — the release of previously unheard music from the Broadway phenomenon “Hamilton” — the show’s creative founding father has teamed up with Ben Platt, the star of Broadway musical “Dear Evan Hansen,” to duet on a track entitled “Found/Tonight.”

The song is a mash-up of “The Story of Tonight” from “Hamilton” and “You Will Be Found” from “Dear Evan Hansen.” A musical about high-school anxiety and social media, “Dear Evan Hansen” won best musical at the Tony Awards the year after “Hamilton.”

An unspecified portion of the proceeds from downloads of the song will go to the “March for Our Lives” initiative, the planned demonstration in support of gun control that is happening in Washington, D.C. and in cities across the country, this Saturday.

Ben Platt signed off his Instagram message with the hashtag #GunControlNow and the lyrics of “Found Tonight” strikes an appropriately hopeful note. “Even when the dark comes crashing through/ When you need a friend to carry you/ When you’re broken on the ground/ You will be found.”

“Found Tonight” is the fourth release from “Hamildrop.” Previous releases have included collaborations with indie-rock band The Decemberists and veteran satirist singer Weird Al Yankovic.
