NEW YORK (MarketWatch) – Gap Inc. said Wednesday it plans to roll out clothing in petite and tall sizes on its Web site as the struggling clothing retailer works to boost its sales and lure shoppers.
The new petite and tall product offering is similar to design and styles of the Gap
women’s line but has been tailored for the petite and tall body types.
Gap.com’s petite sizes are designed for women 5’4″ and under, the company said, with sizing based on height, not weight. Petite sizes are available in sizes 0p through 16p in tops and extra small petite and extra large petite in bottoms.
Tall sizes are designed for women 5’11” and above, and are also based on height, not weight. Tall sizes are available in sizes 2t through 16t in tops and small tall through extra large tall for bottoms.
Gap, which operates Banana Republic, Old Navy, Forth & Towne and Gap stores, has grappled with flagging sales and weak profit.
Gap, had dismal sales for the holiday season, and the company is working to improve its merchandise and its stores.
Shares closed down 5 cents at $17.19.
