At Least Three Wounded in SmileDirectClub Facility Shooting in Tennessee

At least one person remains in critical condition after he was shot at a SmileDirectClub Inc. facility in Tennessee Tuesday morning.

The gunman was later shot by police and died at a nearby medical center, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said.

Police said two security guards and a manager at the SmileDirectClub facility in Antioch, Tenn., were shot Tuesday morning. One of the security guards, Johnny Hardin, was in critical condition, while the second, Carlton Watson, was in stable condition.

The police said Messrs. Hardin and Watson are 46 years old and 66, respectively.

SmileDirectClub didn’t identify the men but said they were contracted through an outside security firm.

A company employee, whom SmileDirectClub didn’t identify but said he was shot when he intercepted the gunman, was treated and released from a local hospital.

The police identified that employee as manager Thomas Abbott, 54.

The shooter, whom the police didn’t immediately identify, had started working at the facility again in June, according to the police. He had previously worked there from late 2019 to early 2020.
