October 15 & 16, 2011 at the Neighborhood Preservation Center
St. Mark's Church In-the-Bowery and St. Mark's Historic Landmark Fund partnered in this year's openhousenewyork. Visitors had a rare opportunity to tour the entire historic site. For the Landmark Fund's program, we presented the first phase of our Building History Project, examining the structure's history as well as the lives of the families and organizations who have been housed here. A story from the weekend: One visitor recalled being in the building in the 1980s when she and her, then, fiance met with the Rev. David Garcia before their marriage at the Church. The Rev. Garcia and his family lived here from 1974 to 1988. At the time The Silkscreen Project and Community Documentation Workshop were housed in the basement. Photo album.
